About Chanel Sunglasses
Co Co Couture!
When we think of Chanel, we think of Coco Chanel, founder of one of the most famous designer labels in the world. Coco is actually Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, who had more humble beginnings as a cabaret singer, where she earned the nickname Coco. While employed as a cabaret singer, Coco had an affair with a married man who was in the textile business, a connection that eventually led to her working in a tailor’s shop. During her affair, she became accustomed to nice things, and this is where her love affair with the pearl began. In 1909 Coco met Captain Capel, who would later finance her first shop. Chanel began her illustrious career with hats, and her first boutique was located at 21 rue Cambon, Paris. This address appears behind a Chanel button on some of today’s eye wear and sunglasses designs. With the onset of WWII, Chanel closed her boutique, selling only perfume and jewelry, and moved to Switzerland, where she would experience a 15 year hiatus from the fashion world. After this long break, she returned to Paris, and re-opened her house of couture.
Coco Chanel never married, but rather was married to her work. Until she died in 1971 at the age of 87, she was there to oversee each collection personally. These days the fashion giant is run by Karl Lagerfeld, and he has put his own stamp on this powerhouse of design, with monochrome palettes, heavy with pearls and diamonds. Chanel sunglasses are unique, over sized, and recognized around the world. They are a mix of understated elegance and sophistication. With heavy use of the trademark pearls and quilting on both the arms and the framework, Chanel sunglasses are a much desired fashion accessory.
There is a wide array of styles to choose from, including vibrant colors, monochrome, tortoiseshell, muted tones and denim finishes. No matter the finish, there is always room for the interlocked C’s which Chanel is famous for. Whether they are placed in full view or the word Chanel is subtly placed down the arms, the mark of Chanel is evident somewhere on the sunglasses. There are little insights as to who Coco Chanel was in some of her sunglasses designs. In some there is a small camellia flower on the arm. Camelia’s were Coco’s favourite flower and she loved them because they had no scent and would never compete with her perfume. Her beloved buttons can be found on many styles of glasses as well. Chanel sunglasses feature detailing found throughout the Chanel collection, including delicate bows, quilted arms, chain mail arms taking their cue from Chanel handbags, pearls, leather and the bling of diamante studs.
Celebrities have been wearing Chanel sunglasses since their inception and some notable Chanel lovers are Pippa Middleton, Kate Winslet, Eva Longoria, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta- Jones, Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson, to name a few.
Chanel sunglasses are here to stay. They are a timeless, elegant, easily recognizable and fashion forward way to put your best face forward.
