Guess was originally founded by Georges, Armand, Paul, and Maurice Marciano. They were four Moroccan brothers that were raised in Marseille, France and then moved to California in 1977 so that they could found the company in 1981. The family of the Jordache denim empire were the people who had originally founded the Guess fashion line and who helped the brand get to the point that it is at today. The very first Guess product was a pair of jeans that they had named “Marilyn” and at first, department stores were wary about carrying this new type of stone washed denim. The very first department store that picked up the line of jeans was Bloomingdales and so every other department store followed suit afterwards, noticing that their stock had been sold at a significantly fast pace.
Guess is well known for their iconic black and white ads that were first developed in 1985 and they are still in use as of today. In order to promote their brand they used the likes of super models such as Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, and Eva Herzigova which helped to bring them to a distinctive level on the fashion scale. As time had progressed, the development of their accessories brand broadened and now they are a prominent figure in the accessory industry.
